Capicua transcriptional repressor pseudogene 25 (CICP25)

Target
CICP25
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Related (by homology) to transcriptional repressors (high-mobility group box family), but not itself classified as transcription factor due to lack of function
01

Overview

Capicua transcriptional repressor pseudogene 25 (CICP25) is a processed or unprocessed pseudogene homologous to the capicua transcriptional repressor gene (CIC). It is annotated in human genome databases, such as GeneCards, as a non-functional gene segment without protein-coding capability[1]. While CIC is a functional transcriptional repressor involved in important cellular processes and disease states—particularly in the central nervous system and cancer progression—the CICP25 pseudogene does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes, including CICP25, may have roles in gene regulation at the DNA or RNA level (such as acting as decoys for regulatory RNA molecules), but there is no mechanism of action, drug targeting, or established biomarker application specific to CICP25[1][3][2][4]. CICP25 should not be confused with CIC, the functional capicua transcriptional repressor protein, which is a recognized transcription factor with documented biological and disease roles[2][4]. The pseudogene status makes CICP25 unsuitable for therapeutic targeting, drug development, or classic molecular classification beyond its nature as a pseudogene[1][3].

Biological functions

Other (may have indirect post-transcriptional regulatory impacts, e.g., acting as a competing endogenous RNA)Does not perform classic biological functions like signal transduction, cell death, or proliferation due to being a pseudogene
03

Disease associations

Other (Pseudogenes in general can play regulatory roles in cancer and other diseases, but no direct disease association for CICP25 is documented)
