Overview

Capicua transcriptional repressor pseudogene 3 (CICP3) is a pseudogene related to the capicua transcriptional repressor (CIC), a transcription factor with roles in neurodevelopment, tumor suppression, and cell signaling. Unlike the parental CIC gene, CICP3 is not protein-coding and is classified as a pseudogene; current research does not ascribe biological or therapeutic function to CICP3 itself. Pseudogenes can sometimes regulate their parental counterparts at the RNA level through miRNA competition or serving as sources of regulatory RNAs, but this is not shown for CICP3 specifically. Referencing CICP3 as a therapeutic target is incorrect unless specifically studying non-coding RNA biology or pseudogene network effects in disease[1][2][4].

02

Mechanism of action

None specific for drugs. For pseudogenes, indirect mechanisms might include acting as miRNA “sponges” or decoys, influencing parental gene regulation

03

Biological functions

If transcribed, may act as a competing endogenous RNA, miRNA decoy, or regulator at the RNA levelNo direct protein-coding function
04

Disease associations

None directly established for CICP3; pseudogenes in general may play indirect roles in cancer or other diseases by affecting gene regulation, but specific evidence for CICP3 is lacking
05

Safety considerations

None specific; pseudogenes generally do not present therapeutic safety concerns unless actively transcribed and functional at the RNA level, which is uncommon for CICP3
