CAPN1 antisense RNA 1 (CAPN1-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA gene situated on the opposite strand of the protein-coding gene CAPN1[1][7]. Like other antisense RNAs, CAPN1-AS1 transcripts overlap with the sense (coding) gene and modulate its expression through various mechanisms, including transcriptional interference and chromatin modification. Antisense RNAs often influence pre-mRNA processing, stability, and translation of their sense gene partners[2][7]. The physiological and pathological roles of CAPN1-AS1 remain largely unknown, but deregulation of antisense lncRNAs can potentially contribute to disease processes by altering the expression and regulation of critical protein-coding genes, including CAPN1[7]. No direct disease associations or drug interactions are documented for CAPN1-AS1 at this time.
Not applicable. There are no drugs acting directly on CAPN1-AS1; however, synthetic antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) can theoretically modulate antisense lncRNAs if designed for this purpose.
