Overview

CAPN10-DT is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed in the antisense direction from a promoter region closely adjacent (~3 bp upstream) to the calpain-10 (CAPN10) protein-coding gene[3][5][7]. It is also known as CAPN10 antisense RNA 1 (head to head), CAPN10-AS1, and locus959[1][3]. Like other divergent lncRNAs, CAPN10-DT does not encode a protein but is believed to play a role in the regulation of the neighboring CAPN10 gene's expression, most likely by modulating transcriptional activity through mechanisms such as promoter competition, transcriptional interference, or epigenetic modification[2][3][6][7]. lncRNAs produced by divergent transcription are common near active promoters and can affect gene expression through both cis-acting (affecting nearby genes) and trans-acting (affecting distant genes) regulatory methods[2][3]. There are no known drugs that specifically target CAPN10-DT, and it is not considered a therapeutic target or used as a clinical biomarker. Its biological significance may relate primarily to fine control of gene expression rather than direct disease association or druggability[2][3][7].
