CAPN15 antisense RNA 1 (CAPN15-AS1) is a natural long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the strand opposite the CAPN15 gene. Natural antisense RNAs like CAPN15-AS1 are regulatory non-coding RNAs that can influence the expression of their sense gene (here, CAPN15), possibly modulating gene expression at the level of transcription, mRNA stability, or splicing[2][3]. While CAPN15-AS1 has been catalogued in genomic studies and lncRNA databases, specific biological and disease functions for this antisense RNA have not yet been characterized in the literature. Current studies indicate that natural antisense lncRNAs in general can regulate their sense counterparts or contribute to cell-type- or disease-specific gene regulatory networks, but there is no direct evidence associating CAPN15-AS1 with disease or as a drug target[2][3].
