Overview

CAPZA1 pseudogene 2 (CAPZA1P2) is a pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional genomic sequence that bears similarity to the CAPZA1 gene which encodes the F-actin-capping protein subunit alpha-1. Unlike the functional CAPZA1 gene, CAPZA1P2 does not code for an active protein and therefore does not have any known biological function, disease associations, or drug interactions. Pseudogenes arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition and typically lack therapeutic relevance[5]. The functional CAPZA1 gene (capping actin protein of muscle Z-line subunit alpha 1) is an actin-binding protein involved in the regulation of actin filament growth, and has some disease associations (such as Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis 1 and Nemaline Myopathy)[1][3]. However, CAPZA1P2 itself is solely a pseudogene reference and should not be confused with the true therapeutic protein target. If the therapeutic target intended was CAPZA1, refer to "F-actin-capping protein subunit alpha-1" instead[1][3][5].
