Carbohydrate sulfotransferase 15 (CHST15) is a type II transmembrane Golgi enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of sulfate to N-acetylgalactosamine 4-sulfate (GalNAc4S) on chondroitin sulfate, generating chondroitin sulfate E (CS-E). It plays a critical role in modulating fibrogenesis, inflammation, and tumorigenesis, making it a potential therapeutic target for fibrotic diseases and cancer. Its expression is upregulated in various pathological conditions, including cardiac and intestinal fibrosis, and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
Blockade or silencing of CHST15 to reduce chondroitin sulfate E (CS-E) production, thereby modulating fibrotic and inflammatory pathways.
