Carbonic Anhydrase 1 (CA1)

Target
CA1
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Carbonic Anhydrase, Alpha-carbonic anhydrase
01

Overview

Carbonic anhydrase 1 (CA1) is a cytosolic enzyme belonging to the alpha-carbonic anhydrase subfamily. It plays a crucial role in cellular pH regulation and CO2 transport. CA1 is highly expressed in red blood cells and has been implicated in cardiovascular complications of diabetes, as well as ocular diseases. Its dysregulation contributes directly to several disease states including cardiovascular complications from diabetes as well as ocular diseases involving vascular leakage.
