Carbonic anhydrase 14 (CA14) is a zinc metalloenzyme that catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. It is a type I membrane protein highly expressed in the central nervous system, with lower expression in other tissues such as liver, heart, and kidney. As a member of the carbonic anhydrase family, it plays a role in respiration, acid-base balance, and fluid secretion. CA14 is considered a potential drug target due to its role in pH regulation, and inhibitors have been identified.
