Carbonic anhydrase 5B pseudogene 1 (CA5BP1 or CA5BP)

Target
CA5BP1 or CA5BP
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)

Overview

Carbonic anhydrase 5B pseudogene 1 (CA5BP1) is classified as a pseudogene located adjacent to the functional CA5B gene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to functional genes but generally lack the ability to encode a functional protein, either due to mutations or incomplete sequences. CA5BP1 is predicted to potentially possess carbonate dehydratase activity and to localize to the mitochondrion, based on sequence similarity, but there is no evidence it produces a functional enzyme or plays a significant biological role. It is not implicated in disease or normal physiological processes and is not a therapeutic target[5].
