Carbonic anhydrase-related protein 10 (CA10) is a secreted, catalytically inactive member of the α-carbonic anhydrase family predominantly expressed in the central nervous system[1][3]. CA10 lacks the enzymatic activity typical of carbonic anhydrases due to the loss of key zinc-coordinating histidine residues[1][3]. It functions mainly as a binding partner for neurexins, a class of synaptic cell-adhesion molecules, and participates in modulating surface localization and trafficking of neurexins in neurons[1]. CA10 is evolutionarily conserved and may act as a molecular chaperone or as an adaptor enabling the assembly of synaptic protein complexes in the brain[1]. In addition, CA10 has been identified as a tumor suppressor with its gene methylation associated with patient prognosis in renal cell carcinoma[2].
