Overview

Carbonic anhydrase VII (hCA VII) is a cytosolic enzyme belonging to the carbonic anhydrase family, which are zinc-containing metalloenzymes. The enzyme catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide, a reaction fundamental to many physiological processes including respiration, acid-base balance, and pH regulation. It also protects cells from oxidative damage. High expression levels correlate with higher tumor grades in gliomas.
