Overview

Carboplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapy medication used to treat various forms of cancer. It acts by binding to DNA, preventing DNA replication and transcription, ultimately leading to cell death. It is commonly used to treat advanced ovarian cancer, and is also used for lung cancer, head and neck cancers, brain tumors, bladder cancer, breast cancer, and endometrial, cervical, and testicular cancers.

Mechanism of action

Carboplatin binds to DNA, forming monoadducts and interstrand cross-links. This inhibits DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell death.
