Overview

Carboxyl ester lipase pseudogene (CELP) is a non-functional genomic element that shares homology with the functional carboxyl ester lipase (CEL) gene. Unlike CEL, which encodes a lipolytic enzyme vital in lipid metabolism, CELP does not translate into an active protein. CELP is considered a pseudogene, meaning it is a remnant of ancestral gene duplication or retrotransposition and does not contribute to enzymatic activity or directly participate in biological or pathological processes[3]. As such, CELP is not a therapeutic target, has no associated biological functions, disease roles, or drug interactions, and is not used as a biomarker.
