Carboxylesterase 5A pseudogene 1 (CES5AP1) is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional copy or fragment of the carboxylesterase 5A gene. Pseudogenes are typically remnants of evolutionary gene duplication or mutation events and do not encode active proteins. CES5AP1 does not participate in enzymatic or biological processes, is not a therapeutic target, cannot metabolize xenobiotics or endogenous substrates, and has no direct clinical, biological, or pharmacological relevance. The functional gene in this family is Carboxylesterase 5A (CES5A), which plays a role in the hydrolysis and metabolism of ester-containing compounds, but CES5AP1 does not share these functions[2]. If drug targeting or biochemical analysis is intended, CES5AP1 should be replaced with its functional counterpart, Carboxylesterase 5A (CES5A).
