Carboxypeptidase D pseudogene 1 (CPDP1) is a genomic DNA sequence derived from the carboxypeptidase D gene but rendered nonfunctional due to disabling mutations, such as deletions or point mutations[15][4][12]. Pseudogenes like CPDP1 resemble protein-coding genes but no longer encode functional proteins and are generally not transcribed or translated[13][9][5]. They arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition followed by subsequent inactivation. CPDP1 specifically is similar to the functional carboxypeptidase D gene but does not perform any enzymatic or regulatory roles in the cell and is not an actionable drug target[12][15][4].
