Overview

Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 18 (CEACAM18) is a transmembrane protein belonging to the CEACAM family, part of the larger immunoglobulin superfamily[1][4]. It contains one immunoglobulin V-like and two immunoglobulin C2-like extracellular domains, as well as a short cytoplasmic tail[1]. CEACAM family members are implicated in cell-cell adhesion, immune regulation, angiogenesis, cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis[1][4][6]. While the specific function of CEACAM18 remains under investigation, its structure suggests potential roles in cell adhesion and as a receptor for pathogen recognition or immunoregulatory molecules[1]. It has been identified, along with other CEACAMs, as a biomarker for colorectal cancer and may play a part in diverse intracellular signaling pathways, though no specific drug interactions or therapeutic developments have been reported for CEACAM18 to date[1][4][7].
