Carcinoembryonic Antigen Related Cell Adhesion Molecule 5 (CEACAM5)

Target
CEACAM5
Molecular classification
Cell surface glycoprotein, Cell adhesion molecule, CEA family member
01

Overview

Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5 (CEACAM5) is a cell surface glycoprotein involved in cell adhesion and signaling. It is highly expressed in various epithelial tissues, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract and squamous epithelia. CEACAM5 plays a role in cell-cell adhesion and inhibits differentiation and apoptosis. It is overexpressed in many adenocarcinomas, including colorectal cancer and non-small-cell lung cancer, and is widely used as a biomarker for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring. It is the target of investigational imaging agents for intraoperative tumor localization.
