Overview

Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 7 (CEACAM7) is a cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the carcinoembryonic antigen family and the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is normally expressed on the apical surface of epithelial cells in the colon and rectum, where it mediates cell–cell adhesion and maintains epithelial differentiation. Expression of CEACAM7 is often downregulated in colorectal, rectal, and gastric cancers, and this loss correlates with tumor progression and poor prognosis, supporting a tumor suppressor role. Given its tumor-restricted expression pattern, CEACAM7 is being investigated as a potential prognostic biomarker and a therapeutic target, including in preclinical models of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy directed against GI malignancies[1][2][6].
