Disease Roles
Cardiac Muscle Cell Overview
Cardiac muscle cells, also known as cardiomyocytes, are specialized muscle cells found exclusively in the heart. They are responsible for the contractile function that enables the heart to pump blood throughout the body. Unlike skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle operates involuntarily and is regulated by electrical impulses originating from pacemaker cells and modulated by the nervous system.
