Target intelligence / Profile preview
Cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) is a cardiac-specific protein that is part of the troponin complex in cardiac muscle cells. It regulates heart muscle contraction by inhibiting actomyosin ATPase activity. cTnI is a highly specific biomarker for myocardial injury, and elevated blood levels indicate damage to cardiac myocytes, particularly during acute myocardial infarction. Mutations in the TNNI3 gene can cause inherited cardiomyopathies.
