The cardiomyocyte apoptosis pathway refers to the regulated process by which heart muscle cells (cardiomyocytes) undergo programmed cell death. This process is central to both normal cardiac development and the pathogenesis of various cardiovascular diseases, including myocardial infarction, ischemia/reperfusion injury, chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity, and heart failure. Apoptosis in cardiomyocytes is tightly controlled by multiple signaling molecules and pathways, including the intrinsic (mitochondrial) and extrinsic (death receptor) pathways.
