Cardiotrophin 2, pseudogene (CTF2P)

Target
CTF2P
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene; classified as a cytokine in other species but not functional in humans)
01

Overview

Cardiotrophin 2, pseudogene (CTF2P) represents the human ortholog of the murine cytokine neuropoietin (cardiotrophin-2). While neuropoietin is a functional cytokine in mice and other mammals—acting via the CNTF receptor complex, LIF receptor, and gp130 to promote neural survival and proliferation—human CTF2P is rendered nonfunctional by an 8-base pair deletion that disrupts the coding sequence. As a result, CTF2P does not produce an active protein, has no known physiological or pathological functions, is not associated with any disease, and is not considered a direct therapeutic target in humans.
