Casein Kinase I Epsilon (CK1ε)

Target
CK1ε
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine/threonine kinase, Casein kinase I family
01

Overview

Casein kinase I epsilon (CK1ε), also known as CSNK1E, is a serine/threonine protein kinase and a member of the casein kinase I family. It functions primarily as a monomer in the cytoplasm and can autophosphorylate its own C-terminal domain. CK1ε plays a central role in regulating the circadian clock by phosphorylating Period family proteins (PERs). It is also implicated in cell cycle control, DNA repair, and Akt pathway regulation. CK1ε phosphorylates proteins at Ser(p)XXSer/Thr motifs.
