CASK-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Non-protein coding RNA

Overview

CASK antisense RNA 1 (CASK-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand opposite the CASK gene locus. As a member of the antisense lncRNA family, CASK-AS1 is believed to be involved in the regulation of gene expression, particularly affecting its sense gene, CASK, which encodes a multi-domain scaffolding protein implicated in neurodevelopment and synaptic function. Although aberrant lncRNA expression is broadly linked with various human diseases, specific functional or therapeutic relevance for CASK-AS1 is not well-established. It is mainly studied as a regulatory RNA with disease associations based on linked protein-coding genes, not as a drug target itself.
