Overview

Caspase 1 pseudogene 1 (CASP1P1) is a human pseudogene related by sequence homology to the caspase-1 gene. Pseudogenes like CASP1P1 result from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and lack the full coding capacity, regulatory elements, or expression to produce a functional protein. While pseudogenes can sometimes act as regulatory elements (e.g., as competing endogenous RNAs or sources of small RNAs), there is no established evidence supporting a direct biological or therapeutic function for CASP1P1 specifically. CASP1P1 is not considered an active therapeutic target nor does it encode a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. The functional caspase-1 gene (CASP1) itself is a cysteine protease involved in inflammation and pyroptosis, but CASP1P1 should not be confused with its functional paralog[2][3].

Mechanism of action

None (Does not encode a functional molecule for pharmacological action)

03

Biological functions

None (Does not encode a functional protein; may have regulatory or non-coding RNA roles as described generally for pseudogenes[2][3])
04

Disease associations

Other (Pseudogenes may be dysregulated in cancer or act as non-coding RNA regulators in some cases, but no direct evidence for CASP1P1 as a functional disease driver[2][3])
