Caspase activity and apoptosis inhibitor 1 (CAAP1) is an anti-apoptotic protein encoded by the human CAAP1 gene (also known as C9orf82). It localizes to mitochondria and regulates apoptosis by modulating the caspase-10-dependent mitochondrial caspase-3/9 feedback amplification loop, suppressing programmed cell death. CAAP1 has been reported to play roles in cancer biology, with decreased expression associated with increased platinum resistance in ovarian cancer, suggesting its potential as a biomarker and therapeutic target for diseases characterized by apoptosis dysregulation.
