Overview

Castor zinc finger protein 1 (CASZ1) is a zinc finger transcription factor that functions as a transcriptional activator, regulating the expression of target genes involved in blood vessel formation (vascular assembly and morphogenesis) and other processes[1][2][5]. It is encoded by the CASZ1 gene and may act as a tumor suppressor[1]. Variants in the CASZ1 gene are associated with blood pressure variation and have been implicated in specific disease states such as dilated cardiomyopathy and chromosome 1p36 deletion syndrome[1]. CASZ1’s molecular functions include DNA binding and metal ion binding, consistent with its role as a DNA-binding transcription factor[3][5]. There is no evidence that CASZ1 is a direct target for currently approved drugs, nor are there reported biomarkers or pharmacological mechanism of action terms specifically linked to drugs targeting this protein[1][5].
