The catecholamine system refers to the network of molecules, enzymes, receptors, and physiological processes involving catecholamines—biogenic amines that function as both neurotransmitters and hormones in the body. The primary catecholamines are dopamine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline), and epinephrine (adrenaline).
