Catenin alpha 1 pseudogene 1 (CTNNA1P1) is a non-coding pseudogene corresponding to the _Catenin alpha 1_ gene. While it does not produce functional protein, recent studies demonstrate that CTNNA1P1 can act as a regulatory RNA by serving as a 'decoy' for microRNA-141, a process that can influence the expression level of its cognate gene CTNNA1. Through this RNA-based regulation, CTNNA1P1 affects cell proliferation and tumor growth, particularly in colorectal cancer where decreased CTNNA1P1 expression is associated with more advanced tumor stage. Its function is emerging in cancer biology as an element of gene expression regulation networks for tumor suppressor genes[2].
