Overview

Catenin alpha-3 (CTNNA3) is a member of the vinculin/alpha-catenin family that functions as a core component of adherens junctions, facilitating cell-cell adhesion by linking the cadherin/β-catenin complex to the actin cytoskeleton[2][3][5]. It is highly expressed in the heart, peripheral nerves (especially Schwann cells), and oligodendrocytes of the central nervous system, playing critical roles in maintaining the structure of cardiomyocyte junctions and neuroglial adherens junctions[1][2]. CTNNA3 is implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple diseases, including arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (particularly the familial 13/biventricular variant), various neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, asthma, and certain cancers, likely through its regulation of cell adhesion and tissue integrity in both cardiac and neural systems[1][2][4].
