Cathepsin L pseudogene 6 (CTSLP6)

Target
CTSLP6
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Other (not an enzyme, receptor, transporter, etc.)

Overview

Cathepsin L pseudogene 6 (CTSLP6) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene related to the cathepsin L gene family. Unlike the functional cathepsin L enzyme, which is a lysosomal cysteine protease involved in protein catabolism and viral entry, CTSLP6 does not encode a functional enzyme or protein product. Pseudogenes like CTSLP6 are typically genomic sequences that resemble protein-coding genes but have lost their protein-coding potential due to mutations, deletions, or the absence of necessary regulatory elements. While some pseudogenes regulate parent gene expression via noncoding RNA products or RNA interference in other contexts, there is no evidence that CTSLP6 has such a function. It is not considered a therapeutic target or clinically relevant biomarker.
