Overview

Cathepsin L pseudogene 8 (CTSLP8) is a presumed non-functional segment of DNA related by sequence to the cathepsin L gene family, which encodes cysteine protease enzymes. Unlike functional cathepsins, CTSLP8 is not known to produce a protein or participate in enzymatic activity, cellular signaling, or serve as a receptor, transporter, or transcription factor. Cathepsin L itself is a well-characterized lysosomal cysteine protease involved in protein degradation, immune response, and other physiological processes, but no evidence supports comparable molecular or therapeutic relevance for CTSLP8[1][3]. In taxonomical databases and molecular studies, pseudogenes such as CTSLP8 are generally annotated as non-coding and lacking function. There is no scientific or medical literature supporting a biomarker role, disease relevance, mechanism of action, or drug interaction for CTSLP8.
