CATIP antisense RNA 1 (CATIP-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the CATIP gene locus. Recent studies have implicated CATIP-AS1 as a tumor suppressor in thyroid cancer, where it is significantly downregulated compared to normal tissue. Low levels of CATIP-AS1 are associated with poor prognosis in thyroid cancer patients. Functionally, overexpression of CATIP-AS1 inhibits thyroid cancer cell proliferation, migration, and EMT, while promoting apoptosis. Mechanistically, CATIP-AS1 acts as a molecular sponge for miR-515-5p, antagonizing its effects and leading to upregulation of SMAD4, a critical mediator of the TGF-β pathway important in cancer biology. These findings suggest that CATIP-AS1 may serve as a novel biomarker for thyroid cancer detection and prognosis, and may be explored as a potential therapeutic target in the future[2][3][4][5].
