Overview

Caveolae-associated protein 4 (CAVIN4 or MURC) is a muscle-specific structural protein found in the caveolae and T-tubules of cardiomyocytes. While it is not essential for caveola formation, CAVIN4 modulates caveolar morphology and serves as a scaffold for ERK1/2, facilitating their recruitment and activation in response to α1-adrenergic receptor signaling. CAVIN4 also promotes Rho/ROCK pathway activation and supports myofibrillar organization. Mutations or dysregulation of CAVIN4 are associated with several cardiac conditions, including hypertrophy and inherited cardiomyopathies[1][2][5][6].
