The caveolin-1 scaffolding domain (CSD) is a 20-amino acid sequence (residues 82–101) within the caveolin-1 (Cav-1) protein. It mediates interactions between Cav‑1 and various signaling proteins by binding to caveolin-binding motifs (CBMs), regulating multiple cellular processes. Synthetic peptides mimicking the CSD have therapeutic potential in treating fibrosis, inflammation, and aging-related organ dysfunction.
Mimicking the CSD with synthetic peptides can restore HO-1 activity, block lung fibrosis progression, suppress tissue edema and vascular leakage, and reverse aging-associated fibrosis and microvascular leakage.
