CBX3 pseudogene 2 (CBX3P2) is a processed pseudogene derived from the CBX3 gene (encoding Chromobox protein homolog 3 / HP1γ), which is involved in heterochromatin formation and gene silencing[2][3][4]. Unlike the functional CBX3 protein, the CBX3P2 locus does not produce a functional protein. In mice, two such pseudogenes are present in a head-to-tail configuration on Chromosome 13, while in humans, similarly named loci exist but are annotated as non-functional[2]. As a pseudogene, CBX3P2 lacks protein-coding capacity, has no known molecular function, and is not recognized as a druggable or therapeutic target. Any reference to CBX3P2 as a target molecule or receptor is likely a misattribution; the functional gene is CBX3 (chromobox protein homolog 3), not CBX3P2[2][3][4].
