CBX7 antisense RNA 1 (CBX7-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the genomic region antisense to the CBX7 gene. Antisense RNAs like CBX7-AS1 can regulate expression of their sense counterparts via various mechanisms, including modulation of DNA methylation, influencing chromatin structure, and interfering with sense transcript stability or transcription. While no direct functional characterization of CBX7-AS1 is well established in the literature, analogous antisense lncRNAs play roles in epigenetic regulation, tumor suppression, and cell cycle control by mechanisms such as recruitment of Polycomb group proteins and regulation of histone modifications. CBX7-AS1 is not itself a therapeutic target, but it may play regulatory roles relevant to disorders of cell proliferation, such as cancer, through its modulation of CBX7 expression and downstream pathways.
