CCDC18 antisense RNA 1 (CCDC18-AS1) is a human long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 1p22.1. It is transcribed antisense to the CCDC18 gene and primarily functions in the regulation of gene expression, often affecting cancer-related processes. In breast cancer, CCDC18-AS1 is abnormally upregulated and correlates with poor prognosis; its expression levels can distinguish cancerous from normal tissues with high diagnostic accuracy. The lncRNA participates in competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks, potentially "sponging" microRNAs to regulate genes such as SFN, which are implicated in cancer cell proliferation and progression. While CCDC18-AS1 is not considered a classical druggable target (such as a receptor or enzyme), its roles in oncogenesis and its biomarker potential make it important for research in cancer biology and diagnostics. There are no currently reported drugs or therapies that target CCDC18-AS1 directly.
