CCDC86 Antisense RNA 1 (CCDC86-AS1)

Target
CCDC86-AS1
Molecular classification
long non-coding RNA, antisense RNA
01

Overview

CCDC86 Antisense RNA 1 is a long non-coding antisense RNA gene transcribed from the opposite strand of the *CCDC86* locus. As an antisense lncRNA, CCDC86-AS1 is involved in epigenetic regulation of gene expression, potentially through mechanisms such as recruitment of chromatin modifiers or altering mRNA stability of sense genes. CCDC86-AS1 has been described as exerting oncogenic functions in ovarian cancer; however, mechanistic details remain sparse. Like other antisense lncRNAs, its primary roles are likely in the regulation of transcription and chromatin architecture rather than serving as a classical drug target such as a receptor or enzyme. No drugs are currently documented to directly interact with CCDC86-AS1, and there are no established biomarkers or safety concerns associated with targeting this molecule. The molecular classification is "long non-coding RNA, antisense RNA". The current research indicates its biological role is primarily in gene regulation and its disease association is with cancer, notably ovarian cancer.
