CCND2 antisense RNA 1 (CCND2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the cyclin D2 (CCND2) gene locus. CCND2-AS1 is a transcript of approximately 553 base pairs and does not encode protein. It is implicated in the regulation of cell proliferation, cell cycle progression (particularly at the G1/S checkpoint), and other cancer-related processes. CCND2-AS1 is frequently upregulated in several cancers, including breast, gastric, and glioma, where it promotes tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, often through the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway or regulation of cell cycle proteins. In contrast, in some contexts, such as cervical cancer, CCND2-AS1 can be downregulated and act as a tumor suppressor by inducing cell cycle arrest. The molecule is of interest as both a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in oncology, though no drugs directly targeting this lncRNA are currently in clinical use[1][2][4].
