Overview

CCR4-NOT transcription complex subunit 9 (CNOT9) is a highly conserved core component of the CCR4-NOT complex, which is the major cellular mRNA deadenylase complex in eukaryotes. CNOT9 functions as a transcriptional cofactor and is crucial for processes including mRNA deadenylation, degradation, translational repression, miRNA-mediated gene silencing, and general transcriptional regulation. It interacts with other proteins such as CNOT1 and provides structural binding sites for proteins mediating these regulatory functions.
