CCR4-NOT transcription complex subunit 9 (CNOT9) is a highly conserved core component of the CCR4-NOT complex, which is the major cellular mRNA deadenylase complex in eukaryotes. CNOT9 functions as a transcriptional cofactor and is crucial for processes including mRNA deadenylation, degradation, translational repression, miRNA-mediated gene silencing, and general transcriptional regulation. It interacts with other proteins such as CNOT1 and provides structural binding sites for proteins mediating these regulatory functions. CNOT9 participates in retinoic acid-regulated cell differentiation and development, and while not a classic drug target, has disease relevance as a cancer/testis antigen and as a component implicated in certain developmental disorders[1][2][3][4][5][6].
