Overview
Syndecan-1 (SDC1), also known as CD138, is a transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycan involved in cell proliferation, migration, and cell-matrix interactions. It acts as a co-receptor for growth factors and regulates exosome biogenesis. Aberrant expression is associated with cancer progression and inflammation. It serves as a diagnostic marker for plasma cells and is a therapeutic target in multiple myeloma.
