Target intelligence / Profile preview

Monocyte differentiation antigen CD14 (CD14)

Target
CD14
Molecular classification
Pattern Recognition Receptor (PRR), Glycoprotein, Leucine-rich repeat protein
01

Overview

Monocyte differentiation antigen CD14 is an essential pattern recognition receptor predominantly found on myeloid cells. It detects bacterial components—especially LPS—and initiates innate immune responses through cooperation with TLR4. Its unique GPI-anchor distinguishes it structurally from many other membrane receptors. Both its membrane-bound and soluble forms are functionally significant for host defense against infection.

Other names
Myeloid cell-specific leucine-rich glycoproteinCD14 antigen
02

Mechanism of action

CD14 acts as a co-receptor with TLR4 and MD2 to detect LPS and other PAMPs, triggering intracellular signaling cascades and proinflammatory cytokine production.

05

Safety considerations

Overactivation of CD14 can lead to excessive inflammatory responses and sepsis.Therapeutic targeting of CD14 may require careful modulation to avoid immunosuppression.
06

Biomarkers

CD14 expression levels can be used to identify monocyte subsets.sCD14 levels in serum can be indicative of immune activation or inflammation.
