CD163, also known as Cluster of Differentiation 163, is a transmembrane protein that functions primarily as a scavenger receptor. It is highly specific to cells of the monocyte/macrophage lineage and plays a crucial role in hemoglobin scavenging, innate immunity, and anti-inflammatory processes. The soluble form, sCD163, is a biomarker for various inflammatory diseases. CD163 is also explored as a target for drug delivery and imaging.
