Overview

DEC–205 (CD205) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein receptor primarily expressed on dendritic cells and thymic epithelial cells. It functions as an endocytic receptor mediating efficient uptake of extracellular antigens for presentation to T cells, particularly cross-presentation to CD8+ T cells. It also recognizes apoptotic and necrotic cells. Targeting antigens via DEC–205 is being explored in vaccine development and immune tolerance induction.

Antibody-antigen fusion proteins directed at DEC–205 facilitate antigen uptake and presentation by dendritic cells, leading to T cell activation and immune responses.
