CD23, also known as Fc epsilon RII (FcεRII), is the low-affinity receptor for immunoglobulin E (IgE). It plays a central role in regulating IgE responses, which are critical in allergy and immune defense against parasites. Unlike most antibody receptors, CD23 is a C-type lectin. It is expressed on mature B cells, activated macrophages, eosinophils, follicular dendritic cells, and platelets. CD23 has been implicated in allergic diseases due to its regulatory effects on IgE levels, making it a potential therapeutic target for interventions aimed at modulating allergic inflammation or autoimmunity.
