CD248 Overview
CD248, also known as endosialin or tumor endothelial marker 1 (TEM1), is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that plays significant roles in tissue development, tumor biology, and fibrotic diseases. It promotes stromal cell proliferation and migration during tissue remodeling, contributing to angiogenesis by supporting pericyte proliferation around new blood vessels in tumors. On naive human CD8+ T-cells, it appears to inhibit cell proliferation. Diseases linked to aberrant CD248 expression include various cancers and fibrotic disorders. Several experimental therapeutics are being developed against CD248, including monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, CAR-T therapies, and therapeutic vaccines.
