CIK

01

Overview

CD3+CD56+ cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells are a unique population of immune effector cells that exhibit both T cell and natural killer (NK) cell-like properties. They are generated ex vivo by stimulating PBMCs or T-cell subsets with a combination of cytokines, typically IFN-γ, anti-CD3 antibody, and IL-2. They possess potent cytolytic activity against tumor targets and can kill in an MHC-restricted or -unrestricted manner. CIK therapy is being explored for cancer immunotherapy due to their ability to be expanded easily ex vivo and their anti-tumor activity.
