CD38 antigen (CD38)

Target
CD38
Molecular classification
Ectoenzyme, Type II transmembrane glycoprotein, Receptor, Adhesion molecule
01

Overview

CD38 is a 45 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein with multiple enzymatic activities, including NAD+ glycohydrolase, ADP-ribosyl cyclase, and cyclic ADP ribose hydrolase. It is expressed on various immune cells and plays roles in cell adhesion, signal transduction, calcium signaling, and regulation of migration. CD38 is a therapeutic target in multiple myeloma due to its high expression on plasma cells and MM cells, allowing anti-CD38 antibodies to mediate cell death via CDC and ADCC. It also has a role in regulating immune responses and is a marker for immune activation.
